One thing, for more than 25 years.
Nevus is a small Cape Town firm that does skills development for South African employers. Not training. Not recruitment. Skills development. The planning, the submissions, the grants and the record that holds it all up.
Why we are still small on purpose
Around eighty employers use us. Some have twelve people, some have several hundred. We could take more, and we deliberately do not take many more at once.
Skills development runs on one hard deadline a year, and everybody's deadline is the same day. A firm that takes on more clients than it can carry through April is a firm that will file somebody's submission badly. We would rather grow slowly and keep the record we have.
It also means the person who does your work is the person who answers the phone about it. There is no account manager between you and the file.
What we are not
- Not a training provider. We do not sell courses, so we have no reason to recommend training you do not need. When training is required we help you pick a provider on merit.
- Not a B-BBEE verification agency. We plan the skills element and build the evidence; an independent agency verifies it.
- Not a recruitment firm. We help you develop the people you already employ, so a gap gets closed by training someone who knows the business rather than by another hire.
Approach
How we actually work
We start with your numbers, not a proposal
The first conversation is about what you are paying in levy and what has come back. That is a factual question with a factual answer, and it takes one payroll summary to establish. If the answer is that you are already well handled, that is the end of it and it has cost you nothing.
We keep the record through the year
The difference between a submission that sails through and one that gets queried is almost always evidence gathered as it happened rather than reconstructed afterwards. Our clients are not scrambling in April, because the file was being kept in September.
We tell you when something will not work
Some discretionary applications are not worth the effort for a company your size. Some training will not earn the scorecard points somebody has promised you it will. We would rather say so early than build a plan on it.
We stay with it to the payment
Lodging a claim is not the same as being paid. SETAs query, systems stall, and money sits. Following it up is part of the job rather than an extra, and it is the part most companies do not have the patience for.
Clients
The companies we work for
Manufacturers, engineers, contractors and distributors, mostly in the Western Cape, mostly with more than fifty people on payroll.

Also working with Schuurman Lasercut (Pty) Ltd, and around eighty other employers across manufacturing, construction, agriculture, chemicals, logistics and retail.
Ten minutes on the phone will tell you whether we are useful to you.
Leave a name and a number and we will call you back. If it turns out you do not need us, we will say so and you will have lost ten minutes.
